Hiking Hamilton Falls in Jamaica State Park, Vermont

Hiking Hamilton Falls in Jamaica State Park, Vermont

We hiked Hamilton Falls on a scorching hot and humid summer August day. The first two-thirds of the hike was nice and easy with a slight grade. The final stretch to the top (almost killed me) literally. Every other word out of my mouth was a F BOMB. Next year when we go back I vow to be in better hiking shape! In total is was approximately a 6 mile roundtrip hike.

Hamilton Falls is a very popular swimming and picnicking area located within the natural area along Cobb Brook.  The Hamilton Falls Trail provides access to the top and bottom of the falls and connects to the West River Trail within Jamaica State Park.

Swimming at Hamilton Falls is very dangerous and not recommended. There are strong currents and slippery rocks. More than twelve people have died at this site as a result of injury from attempting access or exiting the upper and middle pools. We did watch several people climb the steep rocks to access the pools above.

We look forward to returning to Vermont. It was gorgeous and sparsely populated which was awesome. Our friends have a beautiful home that they rent out for skiers and anyone who loves the winter life in the Northeast. Their home is located in West Dover and is a cool laid back community that is worth visiting.

CHEERS!
