We went on an impromptu road trip to Arkansas to surprise family. On our way back to Kansas City we went through the Ozark National Forest which is always a great drive. The forest is very scenic and serene and provides spectacular views especially in the fall when leaves are changing colors.
The Ozark National Forest encompasses 1,200,000 acres primarily in the scenic Ozark Mountains in northern Arkansas.
The forest was created in 1908 by proclamation of President Theodore Roosevelt . The forest is home to over 500 species of trees and woody plants. Hardwoods, predominantly oak and hickory, comprise the majority of the forest. The forest contains five designated wilderness areas.
The Ozark National Forest is located in parts of 16 counties
